Early on Saturday morning the natives on the east side of the river come across to the market. Here they arrange goods inside of a fence and the natives buy - sellers inside, buyers outside. The thing most in demand seems to be roasted manihot, of which great quantities are sold - and eagerly bought by the natives. Here all types are found. The chief products are manihot (roasted roots), leaves, native eggplant, corn, peanuts, dried fish, oil nuts, beans. [Shantz travel journal, Feb. 7, 1920]
