Detail of surface soil Jan 08, 1920 Kalule, Belgian Congo
Detail of surface soil - cut out area 1 ft. wide. Full of red masses - which are apparently weathered rock masses. The surface soil is a little grey. Sample taken of this soil 6 inch below surface but it is uniform to 3 ft. at least. [Shantz travel journal, Jan. 8, 1920]
