Blue ground Sep 22, 1919 Kimberley, South Africa

3 miles of blueground.
Soil or rock 5 miles from the mines is spread out on immense floors where it is harrowed and watered and allowed to slack for a period of 8-18 months. It is then gathered up and taken to the washers. Almost agriculture in this stage at least. [Shantz travel journal, Sep. 24, 1919]
