Shows manihot in all stages of manufacture. Plants grow at side of cottage - roots in fore are picked then placed in a large clay pot and covered with water. Here it ferments for 3 days. It is then sundried and pounded in the mortar (here made from a ficus tree) and by the aid of baskets sifted to fine flour. Women do all the work on manihot. (But I have seen men carry water here at Nyanza.) [Shantz travel journal, Feb. 27, 1920]
