Ambassadorial Protocol
Early in his career, Raul Castro spent several years working as a foreign-service clerk with the U.S. State Department in Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico. This employment did not prepare him for the numerous traditions and protocols associated with being a U.S. Ambassador. One of the many customs observed among diplomats involves guests leaving their calling cards when visiting the embassy. Raul Castro amassed a number of these cards during his ambassadorships to El Salvador, Bolivia, and Argentina. These calling cards are included in the Raul H. Castro Papers.
