Data Modeling a Repository
The technical team responsible for UAiR at the University of Arizona is performing comparative analyses between three different data models, each based on the elements included in RSS 1.0/2.0 and Dublin Core (DCMI). The three include:
- an RDF-based data standard
- a moderately normalized RDBMS model (MySQL 5.x)
- a hyper-normalized model (MySQL 5.x)
Building the second of these and performing the initial tests are Neha Sabharwal and Kalpesh Jain, graduating MIS students at the University of Arizona (December 2008).
Patrick Barabe, UAiR lead programmer/technician, is crafting the hyper-normalized model, the third in our list.
To complete the list, the RDF version is our original data model, borrowed from the Fedora project and amended as necessary.
We will present here the documentation, testing specifications, etc. for each and every model and test in a completely transparent fashion.
